Cancelled SR22 Insurance in Colorado

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013

I live in Thornton, Colorado, and I was wondering some reasons that would cause my auto insurance company to cancel my Colorado SR-22 policy?

Here are a couple of reasons that your auto insurance company would cancel your SR-22 insurance policy:

1.)    Making late or missed payments: This is one of the most common reasons that an auto insurance company could cancel your policy. Since you are required to carry Colorado SR-22 insurance, you are already considered a high risk to insure. Add in the fact that you are now making late or missed payments and there is a good chance that your insurance company will terminate your policy. It is so important to make all of your payments on time in order to avoid having your SR22 insurance cancelled.

2.)    Receiving another DUI: If you get another DUI anytime during your SR-22 filing period, your insurance company can decide to cancel your policy. When an auto insurance company cancels a driver’s Colorado SR-22 policy, they are required by the state to notify the DMV. You will most likely have your driver’s license suspended again and you must restart your filing period over again.

3.)    Continuing to have a poor driving record: An auto insurance company can certainly decide to terminate a driver’s SR 22 policy if they receive too many tickets in a certain amount of time, or make too many claims. Drivers that continue to have repeated traffic offenses have a good chance of having their SR 22 insurance policy terminated.

It is very important to make all of your SR 22 payments on time and keep a clean driving record in order to avoid having your Colorado SR22 policy cancelled. If you’re having trouble making your payments because your SR 22 insurance is expensive, you can still go online and compare quotes between other auto insurance companies.
